Your Guide to Skincare during Pregnancy | Hey Honey Skin Care

It’s an exciting time to be expecting and with excitement can come some apprehension on what to eat and what skincare products to use. Let us help you navigate this process a little bit so you can feel empowered and beautiful to take some time for self-care and practice skincare.

We all want to look our best, and it is important that you feel your best during this very beautiful journey.  We’ve all heard of the “pregnancy glow” and while many women are blessed with this condition during their pregnancy, it isn’t true for all. Throughout pregnancy, women will experience varying skin conditions, some favorable and some less favorable, and these changes are all a result of fluctuating hormones. These changes can result in skin conditions such as the sought after “pregnancy glow”, acne, stretch marks, and “pregnancy mask” (melasma aka hyperpigmentation and over production of melanin in the skin). In order to safely treat these conditions, let’s review which ingredients are not only effective for treating them, but are also safe for you and your baby.

What to Avoid

Fortunately, the list of ingredients to avoid during this time is not as extensive as one would think. According to an article by Can Fam Physician it includes: Topical Retinoids, Retinol and Hydroquinone (a skin lightening agent). In fact, Retinol and Retinoids have only been deemed unsafe due to Tretinoin and Isotretinoin (also known as Accutane), both very strong forms of Retinoids that result in long-term adverse birth defects. However, other forms of extensive studies on Topical Retinoids in skincare products have not been thoroughly studied, but for safety purposes have all been recommended to be avoided by nursing and pregnant mothers. A frequently asked question is about the ingredient Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid in over the counter skincare products have very low concentrations and is absorbed in small proportions, thus it does not pose a risk for expecting mothers.

Hey Honey products use clean ingredients that are toxin-free and safe to use throughout your pregnancy. Hey Honey products are designed to self-adjust to your skin, which is constantly changing during this time and will target your skin’s needs even as it changes. Listed below is a routine utilizing products that are free of Retinol and will keep your skin beautiful, healthy and glowing.

This routine is especially curated for mommas-to-be. The routine is stress free and easy to follow, so that you can feel assured that you are using safe and beneficial products for both you and your baby. The goal is to help you achieve and maintain that beautiful “pregnancy glow” throughout your pregnancy and post-pregnancy.

Banish Acne with Be Clear Skin Purifying Bee Propolis Drops

Formulated with Bee Propolis and Green Tea, Be Clear is a lifesaver for promoting a clearer complexion and smoother texture for when your skin takes a turn for the worse and starts to breakout. Bee Propolis effectively heals acne by first targeting the bacteria that causes acne and secondly by easing inflammation. Bee Propolis is also known to jump start the wound healing response in the skin therefore regenerating new skin cells at an accelerated rate.

These drops are a perfect addition to any regimen and can even be used on the body to alleviate itching or irritation as your body undergoes rapid growth. They can be used as needed, applied alone or paired with your favorite serum morning and night. Apply 3-4 drops to your palms then apply to the face and/or body. Allow for the product to fully dry as it can stain.

Say Goodbye to "Pregnancy Mask" with Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum

Infused with Sea Buckthorn Oil and Vitamin C, which are known to help fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation, Good Morning is an ideal product for treating “pregnancy mask” (melasma). Sea Buckthorn Oil helps lighten hyperpigmentation, and also contains antioxidants which are effective against excess melanin in the skin. In addition, the Sea Buckthorn Oil and Honey found in this serum adds a beautiful natural radiance and nourishes the skin.

Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum is the perfect serum to start your day, plus it doubles as the perfect under-makeup primer. Apply as needed by itself or under a moisturizer. When used under makeup, this serum will allow for an even application and a flawless finish.

Get Your Pregnancy Glow with Sweet Treat Wild Berry & Honey Yogurt Recovery Mask

This all over facial and body mask is great to use on the belly, face or all over the body. Sweet Treat Wild Berry & Honey Yogurt Recovery Mask is packed with Bilberry which makes this mask ideal for treating and preventing stretch marks. Bilberry contains collagen enhancing properties and strengthens the overall structural integrity of the skin. It is a deeply hydrating ingredient that significantly improves skin elasticity and has been used for centuries to treat stretch marks. This deliciously hydrating mask will not only help to improve the appearance of stretch marks but also can help to reduce itchiness and give a powerful boost of hydration.

We recommend applying Sweet Treat to your belly either during the day or at night up to 3 times a week. Leave on for approximately 15 minutes. Finally, wipe off the excess and gently rinse with water.

Treat Stretch Marks with On and On Endless Body Massage Cream to Oil

Massaging the skin is important for preventing stretch marks. The act of massage helps to push the cream deep into the skin and helps to break up any stretch marks that may have started forming. Keeping your skin properly moisturized will help to reduce the chance of elastin breaking down. On and On is formulated with Sea Buckthorn Oil and Shea Butter which will help to promote collagen production and increase your skin’s elasticity, allowing it to expand without tearing and forming stretch marks.

Massaging your belly before bedtime helps to promote a restful and calming sleep. Massage On and On into clean skin. The cream will melt into an oil for extended hydration.
